NTU Applauds Republican Study Committee’s Bold Budget Blueprint

Today, the Republican Study Committee (RSC), released a budget resolution that would reduce spending, enable passage of fundamental tax reform, and restore fiscal discipline to the federal government. The budget, authored by RSC Chairman Mark Walker (R-NC) and Representative Tom McClintock (R-CA), would cut spending by $10 trillion over ten years and achieve balance by 2023.

Brandon Arnold, Executive Vice President of NTU, stated: “The RSC budget resolution recognizes that with our national debt rapidly approaching $20 trillion, it’s imperative for Congress to take bold, decisive action to reduce spending and spur economic growth. Chairman Walker and Congressman McClintock deserve a great deal of praise for crafting a budget that would put our government on a sustainable fiscal path.”

NTU is pleased to see this budget would tackle some of the biggest fiscal issues facing our nation. It would open up the reconciliation process to pass tax reform, repeal Obamacare, overhaul major entitlement programs, and roll back burdensome regulations.

NTU encourages the RSC to pursue further steps to rein in spending. While conservatives may disagree on the appropriate level of spending necessary to protect our national security, no one can deny that the Pentagon -- like all federal agencies -- is rife with waste, fraud and abuse. NTU is pleased the budget calls for a full audit of the Pentagon and ends the Overseas Contingency Operations budget gimmick. We further urge the RSC to support a Base Realignment and Closure Process and other transparency and efficiency measures.

“Overall, this bold, forward-thinking budget is exactly what our nation needs at a time of fiscal uncertainty. We hope the RSC budget will help advance the conversation about fiscal restraint and government reform,” concluded Arnold.
