Pennsylvania Finally Has a Balanced Budget That Doesn’t Raise Taxes

After nine long months, Pennsylvania taxpayers can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Earlier today, Governor Wolf relented on his insistence that the lawmakers increase taxes on hardworking Keystone Staters to pay for more government spending. As a result, the state will finally have a balanced budget for this current fiscal year. The package that will become law without the Governor’s signature is an imperfect, yet responsible spending plan that does not raise taxes and invests an additional $200 million in education. This is a significant victory for Pennsylvanians.

National Taxpayers Union has previously weighed in on this debate. While taxpayers may be off the hook for an additional levy this fiscal year, the Governor’s rapacious spending appetite means we must remain vigilant.
