Dear Speaker Ryan, Leader McConnell, Chairman Brady and Chairman Hatch:
On behalf of National Taxpayers Union’s (NTU) supporters across the country, I would like to thank you for crafting an Obamacare “Repeal and Replace” bill that meets the needs of taxpayers by repealing all of the taxes that were created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
As the nation’s oldest taxpayer advocacy organization, NTU is keenly aware of the negative impacts and economic distortions that accompany excessive taxation. Obamacare contains a variety of harmful tax hikes that cost the economy approximately $1 trillion. The list of taxes is too lengthy describe in detail, but includes the individual mandate, the tanning tax, the medical device tax, the health insurance tax, and the “Cadillac” tax, to name but a few.
These myriad taxes have raised the cost of health care, reduced consumer options, hindered economic growth, and increased the size of the federal government. That’s why the first step in repealing the onerous law must be scrapping all of its tax increases.
As the legislative process moves forward and modifications are made, NTU requests that you continue to insist upon a bill that repeals every single new tax and tax increase associated with Obamacare.
