NTU: Disconnect Wireless Tax & Keep it That Way

(Alexandria, VA) – Recent reports indicate the South Carolina House of Representatives will not advance a new wireless tax bill (S277) out of committee – a major victory for taxpayers, consumers, and National Taxpayers Union’s (NTU’s) campaign to defeat the measure.

NTU’s grassroots efforts will continue until the legislation has no chance of being revived this session. Nearly 10,000 South Carolinians took direct action to tell their Representatives and Senators not to pass the bill – with tens of thousands more engaging through social media.

NTU President Pete Sepp said, “The politicians who pushed this new tax so far will not give up easily; taxpayers and their advocates at NTU will need to remain vigilant to prevent it from sneaking through in the future.”

There are 4.5 million cell phone users in South Carolina, paying over 16 percent of their monthly bills in taxes.

The campaign to stop the anti-consumer, anti-taxpayer tax continues at ntu.org.

Sepp concluded, “For everyone working to pay their bills in South Carolina, the clouds of higher taxes are finally starting to clear.”

National Taxpayers Union, “The Voice of America’s Taxpayers”, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working for lower taxes, smaller government, and economic freedom at all levels. More information on NTU’s work is available at www.ntu.org.
