Michigan SCORECARD

NTU’s 11,900 Michigan members have an acute knowledge of the confluence of state and federal politics. On the state side, Michigan spent the majority of the 2000s in recession thanks to overspending, strong employee unions, and high taxes. This led to Gov. Granholm and the Detroit auto companies making multiple trips to Washington for a handout from the Obama Administration, financed by the taxpayers of the other 49 states. Michigan needs to change its course, and quickly. Its public sector payroll is bloated, Michigan levies punitive taxes on job creators, and its property taxes are among the nation’s highest. NTU will continue to work to cut taxes, reduce spending, and bring greater accountability to Michigan's government. Be sure to check back on our Michigan page often for more information on state and local taxpayer groups, our work on behalf of taxpayers in the state, and contact information for your lawmakers.
